Me and Ainu in front of the Supreme Court building
“My older brother used to hate Indonesians. I’m sorry but… he’s stereotyping all Indonesians. The thing is, the Indonesians living in Malaysia haven’t been acting really nice. On weekends, they usually gather and tease girls, even the local girls. And a lot of crimes were also done by the Indonesians. So, again, sorry, if that’s the stereotypes of all Indonesians in Malaysia,” said this pretty girl in front of me.
As she was telling me the story, I got mixed feelings. Angry, disappointed, sad, and ashamed at the same time. No wonder I had a friend who once lived in KL was disrespected just because he’s Indonesian.
“When I told my mother I wanted to travel to Jakarta alone, she was worried. She kept asking me whether Jakarta was safe and all. But when I browsed the internet, I didn’t find any reasons not to come here,” she continued her story.
I started to feel relieve.
Such good news!

Thank you Windy for the kind feed back and testimony after joining our walking tour.
What Windy wrote on her timeline after joining the walking tour.
Definitely one of the most fun walks we had!
We were joined by some of the most avid travelers in Indonesia, Vindhya who is a tour operator for ibupenyu (check her website : http://www.ibupenyu.com) and Ollie who takes very good pictures, on Saturday.
And Windy, who is an author & editor of Gagas media publisher and also fond of traveling, and Mumun who is curious about a lot of things, also Yan, a nice guy who tries to get to know his own city better.
The walk was not just a sharing stories among us but a place for making friends and actin tourists in our own city. The stories consist of drama, comedy, horror, and…rumors!
The emoticons say it all. We had a fun walk with good friends in a nice weather of Jakarta. Just, perfect!
Taking a selfie while having a quick break inside Jakarta’s cathedral.
A surprise we found inside Jakarta’s Cathedral, a wedding ceremony. Beautiful!
Just one of Jakarta’s public facilities we found, no longer in use.
Yes, we walked passing some beautiful buildings, it’s a shame not to take pictures…
Farid, the guide, showing the picture of… himself? Nope. It’s King Chulalongkorn who gave the elephant statue in front of the National Museum.
It was fun. Can’t you see we’re laughing while walking?
Pictures help Farid explaining Jakarta in the old days. This is a Wilhelmina park now turned to be Istiqlal Mosque.
Just us in front of one of the most inportant landmarks in Jakarta. The Court of Constitution.
Started as strangers, ended up being friends. 🙂

We started a bit late due to Eid prayer that I had to do, but it didn’t make the walking tour less fun.
There were 3 women joining us, Edwina and her mother, Edwina has been working for a year in Jakarta and her mother was visiting for the weekend. It was nice to have a walk with them and got to listen to the stories of their family. How Edwina’s mother like traveling, having 3 children in different places make her enjoy doing it. It also felt good knowing that Edwina got to see some leafier places of Jakarta that she had never been before. The other participant was Maryam, a Canadian girl who quit her job and now traveling to Indonesia and Malaysia (later). When you ask her the duration of her stay, she would answer, “I don’t know yet. It depends”. I have a month”. Fun life! These are our pictures and the kind feedback from Edwina. Thanks to you all.

The (too) kind feedback from Edwina. Thanks a lot for the appreciation.
Lucky me! A walk with gorgeous ladies with interesting stories. Maryam was the one next to me, Edwina in the middle and Jenny (Edwina’s mother) on the very left.
The beautiful woman in front of Immanuel Church.
