On Saturday, 15th November, we were thrilled to work with The Museum Project creating an event : Jakarta Walking Tour – Menteng.
The promotion only took a week (even less than that), but the enthusiasm was abundant. Well, we didn’t expected it would that much, because we limited the participants only up to 15 persons.
The meeting point was the Museum of Declaration of Independence, then we walked to Suropati Boulevard where we talked about Bappenas building that used to be the freemason building. After walking through Suropati park, we passed some residences of famous and important people, i.e. the governor’s residence, ambassadors’ of foreign countries’ residences, ex-minister’s house, even ex-president house.
We finally reached the second museum, Museum of the Great General Nasution. This was the residence of Nasution from 1949 – 2000 and this was where Tjakrabirawa troops tried to kidnap him but Nasution managed to escape. His daughter, Ade Irma was killed instead. It was a very intense museum.
Our next stop was Kunstkring Art Gallery. A building 100 years old!
Not far from the gallery, we crossed the street to our final stop, Cut Meutia Mosque that was an office, then.
This route will be our regular Jakarta Walking Tour route. Interested? Well, let us know!
